Living Dao Today: Views and Visions
8th International Conference on Daoist Studies
Utting am Ammersee, Germany
June 6-10, 2012
The eighth in a series of major conferences on Daoist studies in the modern world, this continues a tradition that began in Boston (2003) and continued through Mt. Qingcheng (2004), Fraueninsel in Bavaria (2006), Hong Kong (2007), Mt. Wudang (2009), Los Angeles (2010), and on Nanyue, Changsha (2011).
This year’s location is the spectacular site of the Bayerische Verwaltungsschule in Utting. Right on the shore of the Ammersee lake, it offers great facilities, including a bath house on the lake, a boat pier, tennis and volley ball courts, a bowling alley, and lots of green lawns for qigong, taiji quan, and more. It is also a great starting point for hiking, biking, and boating excursions. The place is in close distance to Munich and offers easy access to the international airport and fabulous local sights.
The theme is views and visions of life in both a contemporary and comparative context. What does it mean to be a Daoist today? How does Daoism traditionally see life—real, ideal, and celestial? How does the Daoist vision of life compare to that of the West, Chinese medicine, and Buddhism, both historically and today?
